The Perks of Wearing a Hijab!

Image
Assalamualaikum. Wearing a hijab is a part of the deal of being a Muslim. Some people believe that wearing a hijab limits women from fully expressing themselves. However, from the viewpoint of a hijabi itself, in my opinion, hijab actually helps me to reveal my potential further and it allows people to define me based on my ability and intelligence instead of my appearance. Anyhow, today, I want to share with you guys, the perks of wearing a hijab! *Yeay!* Having really nice hair Yeah. We actually have great hair. Just so you know. No, I don't have lice in my hair. Yeah, because non-hijabis don't have lice. No, you can't 'look at it'..! Marry me first. Feeling safe Why only women? Well, since it was estimated that 91% of victims of rape are female, and 99% of offenders are male, it's kind of a no-brainer why women should be more protected and covered compared to men. As seen in most Muslim countries, men rarely make lew...

Accepting yourself.

Image
Assalamualaikum. In one of my previous post, I've told you the story of my life during 'The Dark Phase'. How did 'the change' happen? Simple. I learned to start accepting myself. Trust me, it wasn't an easy feat. The hardest challenge in life is challenging yourself to move out of your comfort zone, letting go of what you're familiar with.  Through all those years, I had been feeding my mind with the thoughts of why s,  if s and maybe s. Why can't I be skinnier..? Maybe if I was prettier, I wouldn't be so timid... I could've done better if I was braver... Reminiscing these questions, I realized that during that time, my physical appearance was the main source of my self-consciousness and self-loathing. Don't get me wrong. I didn't hate myself. I just sometimes hoped that I had better. Prettier face, slimmer body, better features, more brainier, you know.  Hormones. Everyone has those. It's j...

Being what is expected as a Muslim in a foreign country.

Assalamualaikum. For your information, recently, I had passed my A-Levels and had been given the wonderful opportunity of furthering my studies abroad.  This is actually my second week in New Zealand.  So, I think I would like to share something today.  One of the things that amaze me, being in a foreign country, is how different the 'racist' issue is, opposing to the way the media had been portraying it. Instead of being judgemental and mean, non-Muslims are actually curious as to why we're wearing a hijab, as an example. They aren't close-minded, they just don't understand. Everyone has a different way of facing their fear of something they don't understand. That's just how human are. My point here is that instead of enhancing the hate built by the media through their portrayal of Islam, help the non-Muslims understand what Islam actually is. Be the Muslim that is expected of Islam. As cliche as it seems, you can actually make a diff...

All About the Bass Parody!

Image
Assalamualaikum. Compared to the original version by Meghan Trainor, All About the Bass (which is all about empowering plus-sized girls and loving yourselves), a version that I found, entitled Mokmel, represents the point of view of guys on how they think of overweight girls. To me, this song is quite sweet as it carries the statement that 'Eventhough you're fat, I still love you'. As claimed before, I'm a hopeless romantic. Who wouldn't want a guy that doesn't care about our fatness and loves our inner-selves, right? The title of the song is an abbreviation of the word 'gemok' and 'comel'. Gemuk + Comel = MokMel So, drum roll pleaaaase! Lirik lagu MOKMEL (parody All About the Bass by Meghan Trainor) Oh sayang walaupun kau gemuk, kau gemuk Kau comel Walaupun kau gemuk, kau gemuk Kau comel Walaupun kau gemuk, kau gemuk Kau comel Walaupun kau gemuk, Kau comel, el, el Biarpun beribu gadis di sisiku D...

Change. It's bound to happen anyway.

Assalamualaikum. I've been putting off posting for a while since my mood had been down for these couple few weeks. Sometimes, I just don't know why... Ok, fine. I do know, but I don't think I have the guts to write it down here... Before you ask, No, it's not because of 'the girl problem', so step away from that subject. It's a sore subject. Move on from the sexist jokes please. Anyway. Moving on. I think, sometimes, it's ok to be firm when you're making a decision. Yeah, maybe someone's heart may be trampled along the way, but if it means that you could achieve your goal and, in a way, protect yourself, just do it. Right? I'm gonna be vague here, so just keep up with me, and try to understand. I'm not saying that you should be vicious and mean in order to achieve happiness. What I'm trying to point out is that sometimes, what we think is good for us may not seem to be the best after all. I don't ...

2 Things I Hate the Most in Romance Novels.

Assalamualaikum. Let's talk about books today, shall we... Reading has always been one of my favourite hobbies. I'm a romantic. I can't deny that. So, my reading preferences would usually be from the romance section. However, there are a few things that kind of bugs me when reading a book and could eventually kill my mood of wanting to finish reading it. What is it? Well... 1. Weak heroin characters. I'm not a feminist, but I believe that in relationships, being firm and strong shouldn't only be applied by guys, but also girls. I hate it when the female characters in a book are; Too Forgiving For example, when her boyfriend a.k.a. the main character, practically cheated on her, he's easily forgiven due to the fact that 'she loves him too much' and 'everyone makes mistakes'. Yeah, I know second chances should be made available, but not in the span of A WEEK! He cheated on you! Too Clueless Oh my God.  Please don't...

Writer's block. Now I get it.

Assalamualaikum. I'm now going through a state where people refer as 'Writer's block'. What is it? Mr. Wikipedia said that; Writer's block is a condition, primarily associated with writing, in which an author loses the ability to produce new work. Oooo.. Now I get it why some people stop writing all of a sudden. Your mind is completely BLANK. You've got nothing to say or write. So, I should stop now to go clear my head and gain some 'intelectual' ideas. Ok, bye. Salam.
