My Experience Joining the Fly High Program (held by INTELEK) for the First Time
Assalamualaikum everyone.
Have you ever heard about Fly High?
Basically, Fly High (FH) is kind of a preparation program made by the previous seniors to help students that are about to continue studying overseas, mainly New Zealand and Australia. I won't really make a whole essay about this, so you could just visit the organizer's page;
I can still remember my first time going to Fly High.
It was in 2014, and that's like a million years ago for me. I can't believe that it has already been 3 years since then, but I can tell you that that program did an amazing job in helping me prepare myself to fly overseas. Who would've thought that I'm about to become a senior in a few months, huh.
What I learnt from Fly High?
1. Prepare yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally.
However homesick I was, there was no way I'm buying a two-way ticket to Malaysia every semester break. My father's not the king.
Another important thing to remember is; Friends are basically all you have. Be nice to them. No one else is going to call your parents for you if you suddenly went AWOL overseas.
2. Never judge people before you know them first.
Sometimes, we tend to think that overseas people are racist, when we’re actually the ones being judgmental in the first place.
What I actually mean is this;
The fact that the media today has been relentlessly serving our society with news and stories that illustrates people overseas (mainly Europeans) as racist and xenophobes (I just Googled this word by the way. It actually means 'intense or irrational dislike or fear of people from other countries') shouldn't be a reason for us to take their word literally. You'll actually be surprised to see how nice people are, and how much the media had left out.
3. How easy Islam is.
I am a Muslim and I am proud to say so. Being overseas made me discover and experience the completeness (syumul) and universality of Islam. Well, rules changes in different environments, but you’ve got to learn about it first though. I've learned about 'Khuf' and 'Istinjak', beside other things. I've also experienced praying at places you would never have imagined (and could even be considered crazy if you do so), like in front of a shopping mall, in the library, in the parents room (the one where mothers usually breast-feed their babies), and even at the airports (it was so hard finding a place with enough space and fewer people). The seniors at FH tell you about this. At the very least, you're prepared, right?
What else? I guess I just have to many that I learned. So, maybe if you're a student bound to continue studying in New Zealand/ Australia, you could join us this year.

That's all from me today, and I hope to right more soon.
