Top 5 Weird Things that Malaysians Really Don't Get in New Zealand.
Assalamualaikum.
Poof. Poof. PPOOOFF. *blowing dust away*
Being in a foreign country as a Malaysian student, I've discovered that life isn't as black and white as it was in Malaysia.
So, let's cut the chase, shall we...
1. Being barefoot outdoors.
Image:
Yeah, they're literally barefoot while going all around the place. Whether it's cold or hot, windy or not, they don't care. The Kiwis are nature lovers and by being barefoot, it actually makes them feel closer to nature. Not sure about them stepping in sharp things, like glasses, though. Maybe they're already used to it? I don't know.
2. Being too polite.

There's no such thing of simply saying 'NO' to people in New Zealand. Kiwis are very polite, so instead of directly saying no, disagreeing with someone, or even giving bad news, you have to actually beat around the bush; talk about other topics before slowly integrating into the point you actually wanted to make in the first place.
3. Parking tooo closely
Image :
HOOOWWW?! In Malaysia, the cars are at least 1 meter apart. We can't afford to scratch our cars. 'My preciousssss'.
4. Taking (expensive) cars for granted
Image :
On my first day arriving in Wellington, I almost cried seeing a mini Volkswagen full of scratches pass by me. This kept happening, up till now with different types of cars (but it's mostly Volkswagen, which is actually my dream car). In Malaysia, that kind of car would usually be considered as another child. Having to pay almost double the amount of the car price (its taxes, duh), of course Malaysians would appreciate the car bought with their hard-earned money.
That is soo not cool Wellingtonions. I'd kill to get your cars.
5. How EXPENSIVE stationaries are!
Image :
Oh My GOD. I wanted to cry the first time I went to Whitchoalls. Fine, that's an expensive shop, I know, but they should at least have $1 pens, shouldn't they? It's not like the pens are made out of gold.. Just saying. In Malaysia, unless it's made overseas, like in Japan or the US, pens have no right to be more than $2 each! I mean, I'm a regular shopper at bookstores (I know, weirdddd), so of course I'm always up-to-date with the prices.
So, yeah. I think that's it! I really hope you loved this post, and I can't wait to update more about my life here. Here's a piece of advice for you;
